Richard Braqo’s ‘Personal Quest for Identity’

Ghanaian designer, Richard Braqo is already making waves for his exquisitely crafted footwear.

With celebrity fans ranging from Ciara and Rihanna (just to name a few), he’s definitely one designer you’ll want to watch.

Born Richard Kwame Brako, Braqo moved to New York at 18 years of age to study at Parsons School of Design. While at Parsons, he became the first recipient of the Cesare Paciotti Accessories Award.

Since then he has garnered attention for his award winning collaborations with Paciotti and has also worked with Ikram Goldman, Acne Studios and Helmut Lang.

His debut collection, (all Italian made) is a mixture of both classic and timeless lines. The ‘ankle bangle’ and ‘the pearled spear’ add an elegant touch to the already classy ‘Coralle’ and ‘Bendetta’; perfect additions to any die-hard shoe lover’s wardrobe.

With regards to his inspiration, Braqo states“…is really about a personal quest for identity juxtaposing masculine details (of a modern men’s brogue) with the feminine silhouette (of a sharp 5 inch stiletto). A fusion of something as classic and timeless as a pointy pump with a touch of the unfamiliar using elements such as ‘the ankle bangle’ and ‘the pearled spear’ as ornate details that refashion existing ideas about where accessories are placed.”
