New Mandela Social Network Launched a social network set up to ‘to engage a global community in dialogue about the inspiring acts of those around us’.

Founded by the former president’s grandsons Ndaba 30 and Kweku Mandela 28 and powered by Backplane (responsible for Lady Gaga’s social network), the site was set up to allow ‘citizens’ to connect, share inspirational thoughts, photos and articles that emulate Mandela’s impact on the world. was launched earlier this year in March and although still in beta phase, it already has around 1000 members, some of which are actively vocal.

Users can connect using Facebook and Twitter to access the site or simply register using a valid email account.

The site owners hope to eventually generate money from the site, with hopes of donating part of the revenue to the Africa Rising Foundation, a project that uses art to promote the continent’s image.
