In the September issue of Forbes Africa Magazine, Forbes Africa teams up with Channel O to bring us the Top 10 Most Bankable Urban Artists list. The list was calculated using a complicated formula which consisted of brand value of artists who are active on the continent. Music sales, performance price tags, social media influence, music awards won and performances during 2012 were each given weightings of either 15-25%. The top 10 were also determined by business ventures and current endorsement deals.
In the top spot was Senegalese American artist Akon who rose to prominence in 2004 following the release of his first single “Locked Up” from his album ‘Trouble’.
Nigerians dominated the list with participants Don Jazzy, D’Banj, WizKid, 2Face, Ice Prince and Identical twins act P-Square.
Angolan born Anselmo Ralph Andrade Lamb and Ghanaian rapper Sarkordie also make the list.
The full list will be featured on Channel O Africa on 1 September at 9PM and the latest edition of Forbes Africa magazine will be available from September 4th!
