Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles (AFWLA) is pleased to announce that they will be hosting their 2013 runway shows at LA’s trendy 525 DTLA
. 525 DTLA boasts a central location, spacious floor plan, and 19 ft high ceilings illuminated by creative architectural lighting which were the deciding factors in making it the perfect venue for hosting the annual runway shows. AFWLA which is scheduled for October 10th -12th 2013, will kick off with an Afro Pop-Up Shop and opening night mixer. The Pop-Up Shop, will be held at the Papillion Institute of Art and will allow designers and other local merchants to sell their items to fashion lovers in Downtown Los Angeles.
Designers expected to show at the event include Maryzo Designs, 2 African Girls, Josefa Dasilva, Yasika Mode, David Giampiccalo, Thriftqueened, Bongolicious, Bella Dhiya, Menogu Designs, Tina Summers, and Nile Goddess Designers.
The Aim of AFWLA is to allow local stylists, buyers, and boutique stores to connect and open the door to more opportunities for featured talent. Tickets for the event are limited and will be available for public purchase through eventbrite from September 9, 2013.
The main AFWLA event will donate part of it proceeds to the Giving Back Charity; a non-profit association committed to promoting education and culture through the implementation of social and educational activities. Their activities, accompanied by high-level tools, are serving youth throughout the world to meet social needs, particularly in disadvantaged areas.
A pre-marketing event ‘Africa is Rising’ will take place at the Papillion Institute of Art in Downtown Los Angeles from 6:00pm-11:00pm PST on Friday September 13, 2013 . This free event, targeted to young professional and creatives will feature music, hors d’oeuvres, and a wine bar.
