Afrobeat Airways 2 is a new album of ultra-rare tracks from some of West Africa’s Afrobeat pioneers. Ghanaian and Togolese artists from the 70’s are featured on the 14-track compilation. Artist like K. Frimpong; Nana Ampedu ; Gyedu-Blay Ambolley; Ebo Taylor; Los Issufu, Waza Afrika 76 and Tony Sarfo are amongst those included. The album is produced by Analog Africa and is set for release on September 17, 2013.
Afrobeat Airways 2, is the second installment after the success of Afrobeat Airways back in 2009.
As with all Analog Africa’s past releases, Afrobeat Airways 2 is more than just a music compilation. A 44-page booklet documenting places, times, and people who shaped the scene is included. The booklet also features an introductory essay written by Afropop Worldwide editor Banning Eyre and interviews and biographies of the artists and producers involved.
The Analog Africa team were able to track down the photographers of the famous Modern Photo studios in Accra and selected 50 of the most expressive pictures for the booklet.
