Cairo, Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Lagos and Nairobi are amongst 25 cities shortlisted to become the world’s youthful city. They will compete against Seoul, Shanghai, Manila, London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Istanbul, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto, Houston, Mexico city, Bogota, Lima, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires and battle it to for the 2014 title.
Youthful Cities is a global social initiative set up by Decode, a Toronto-based organization that has spent the past 20 years working with youth to develop ideas ‘that transform market places, work spaces and society overall. ‘
Decode have found through their studies that 50% of the world’s population is under 30 and 50% percent of the world’s population lives in cities. In an attempt to take theses findings further, they have surveyed approximately 2000 youth from 25 cities.
