‘Voice of Hope’, The New Album from Pumeza Matshikiza

pumeza‘Voice of Hope’ is a new album that introduces us to the astounding vocals of South African soprano Pumeza Matshikiza.

Matshikiza’s story is an incredible and inspirational one that is documented through her music. She came from a life of hardship amid the violence of apartheid in 1980s South Africa. In a attempt to find safer places to live, Matshikiza and her mother moved from townships to township around Cape Town. She was discovered by South African composer Kevin Volans while enrolled at the South African College of Music. Volans brought her a plane ticket to the UK where she auditioned at the Royal College of Music. She was immediately offered a scholarship and has since performed at the Royal Opera House. Today she is leading artist at Stuttgart Opera.

‘Voice of Hope’ includes songs that Matshikiza grew up listening to in South Africa (such as Miriam Makeba’s Pata Pata and the Click Song). She also sings operatic classics (arias from operas such as La Boheme, Turandot and Don Giovanni).
