Ghanaian Presenter, Yaa Nyamekye Inspires Change in Africa with ‘A New Africa”

yaa 2Three years ago, Yaa Nyamekye, Canada based Ghanaian, set out on a journey to become a presenter and TV host.

She’s achieved her aim since then interviewing the likes of Sandra Appiah and Isaac Babu- Boateng (Co – founders of face2faceafrica.com), Ghanaian Radio/TV/Event Host Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) , Nacy , leader of No Tribe , a Ghanaian Gospel Group , actors Nana Ama McBrown and Kojo Nkansah (Lil Win) , and saxophonist Steve Bedi , amongst other influential celebrities/public figures.

Nyamekye is working on a new project; she calls ‘A New Africa’.

“‘A New Africa’ is a show that is dedicated to inspiring young professionals to create and motivate change on the continent of Africa by discussing relevant and current issues pertaining to the continent. The show also aims to uncover the truth and educate.”

The idea was proposed to her by her brother, Nana Bediako and friend, Yaw Tony. Initially, she thought of ‘Let’s Talk Africa’ as the name of the show, only to realize upon research that it’s been taken. She settled on ‘A New Africa’ with a panel of young professionals.

She knows there are other shows with the same theme but says her show is different, “There are many shows out there that discuss current events on the continent, but how many shows have a cast of young professionals, each individual with different perspectives expressing their views, and uncovering ways through which we can make a real difference in our homeland.”

“By bringing young people together to discuss what’s going on in the continent, the aim is to motivate change, and put Africa in a new light. For centuries the continent has been seen as a “country” filled with poor savages. The concept of the continent has been misconstrued; I am hoping that through this show, a new and better understanding of the continent can be created.” She adds.

The show will premiere on her Youtube account in the coming months and hoping that it gets shown on major media platforms.

Born in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada to Ghanaian parents, Yaa holds a degree in Business Marketing from Algonquin College, Canada.

Her mantra in life? “Passions and dreams should not be pushed away and looked at as hobbies or goals that may never be accomplished. Instead, each day should be used to working towards making those dreams a reality because those dreams can and will be accomplished. “

She is aiming for excellence just like her mentors: her mother, Gifty Gyamfi , CEO of GUBA (Ghana UK Based Achievement) Awards , Dentaa Amoateng , Prophet (Dr.)
Cindy Trimm , Sandra Appiah , co-founder , face2faceafrica.com and Media mogul , Oprah Winfrey.
