Drying: Malian Boubacar Doumbia’s “mud” fabrics feature in a new Habitat range

From 14 September – 20 October as part of the 2013 London Design Festival (LDF), Graphic Africa an event hosted by high street retailer Habitat will showcase work from 16 leading designers from 10 countries in Africa.

South African husband and wife team Trevyn and Julian McGowan (Source) oversaw and curated several pieces of African art which includes new furniture, and a capsule collection of ceramics, glassware and lighting, all drawing from the most contemporary interpretation of African pattern and scale to feature in this free exhibit.

As part of Graphic Africa, Habitat senior designer Rebecca Hoyes is collaborating directly with Malian textile designer Boubacar Doumbia to create a limited edition collection based on ‘mud cloth’ techniques. The result will be a collection of home textiles, exclusive to Habitat.

Other designers involved in this project includes Banke Kuku, Eva Sonaike and Laurence Kanza
