Gravity and Grace: Monumental Works of El Anatsui at the Brooklyn Museum

10ANATSUI1-articleLargeFrom February 8, Brooklyn Museum will be featuring the work El Anatsui in an exhibition titled ‘Gravity and Grace: Monumental Works of El Anatsui.

Born in Anyanko, Ghana in 1944, the Nigerian-based artist is most known for his mutable sculptures in wood, clay, metal and most recently discarded metal objects. Each installation bears stories that reference “the history of abstraction in African and European art” His ‘works engage the cultural, social and economic histories of West Africa’.

The exhibition will run up until August 4, 2013.
