‘A Musician’s Story’, A Mini Doc Profiling Ugandan Artist Amaru #ThrowbackThursday

The life of Ugandan born singer Amaru, is documented in a 2014 short film by New York Cinematographer Derek Mindler.
Conning her musical style as ‘Soul-Truth’, the Queens resident (who simply goes by Amaru), was awarded with a CMVA (Ugandan Award) for best newcomer and best female video (Stay) in 2013.
In the mini documentary, Amaru gives us an insight into her background, She also chronicles her move to the big Apple and explains the obstacles she faces as a student and performer in New York City.
Amaru’s influences are Michael Kiwanuka, Corinne Bailey Rae, John Legend and Asa.
