A New African Font Inspired By African Heritage (Karanja)

charvet_font20 year old Kevin Karanja-a Nairobi based artist, has created a commercial new font that he hopes will put Africa on the map.

The typeface named ‘Charvet’ (meaning all encompassing in French) took 6 months to produce.

Karanja used his love of geometry to develop ‘Charvet’ after he was approached by the Nest, an artists workshop.

Karanja told eNews Channel Africa that prior to creating ‘Charvet’, he was able to research ancient typefaces from Europe and Asia but when he tried to find African ones, he found it really difficult.

Charvet is available to download here.
