Since its formation in 2009, Invisible Borders has actively worked in shaping the relationship between various countries in Africa through the employment of visual and literary arts.
Every year a group of 10 creatives (photographers, visual artists, writers and filmmakers) are selected to take a road trip around the African continent and during the duration participate in workshops, presentations and public exhibitions. This opportunity is a great way to help the artists to gain worldwide exposure.
The 5th edition began earlier this month (June 2) and will continue for 151 days until October 31 2014. This years road trip is themed ‘Movement’ and is the first time that the project will go Trans-Continental. The artists will travel from Lagos to Sarajevo via 21 countries in Africa and Europe -Nigeria, Republic of Benin, Togo, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Western Sahara, Morocco, Spain, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and eventually Bosnia.
Included in this years line up are South African filmmaker and Graffiti artist Breeze Yoko; Egyptian filmmaker Heba Amin; Eritrean photographer Dawit L. Petros; Kenyan writer Renee Mboya; South African writer Lindokhule Nhlakanipho Nkosi; Nigerian photographer Tom Saater; South African photographer Angus McKinnon; Nigerian writer and art critic Emmanuel Iduma and Nigerian photographer Emeka Okekere.
