Kenyan Artist Wangechi Mutu featured in Jay Z’s new video ‘Picasso Baby’

533565_522240297847477_876640567_nJay Z gathered art and hip hop enthusiasts for his first video from his ‘Magna Carter Holy Grail’ album.

‘Picasso Baby: A performance Art Film’ has already garnered over a million views on YouTube thus far.

Jayz perfoms his song in front of a diverse crowd in an art gallery and pulls some of them up for a one one one performance, including renowned Kenyan artist and sculptor, Wangechi Mutu.

Wangechi is an award winning mixed media artist. Her collages have been showcased around the world. In 2010, she won the Deutsche Bank “Artist of the Year” Award and was featured on CNN African Voices Special.

The audience were all picked from a pot of artists and other luminaries. Among them are actress Taraj P. Henson, Hip-Hop pioneer Fab Five Freddy writer Judd Apatow, rapper Wale and actor Alan Cumming.

The video was filmed at Pace Gallery in downtown New York and directed by Mark Romanek.
