‘Legal But Unwelcome’, a photo story by Conrad Bornman

A few years back, South Africa gained a reputation for being the largest recipient of Asylum applicants in the world. The country received almost a million asylum applicants in 2012 alone. South African-based documentary photographer Conrad Bornman, captured images of some of the country’s newest residents in a photo story titled ‘Legal but Unwelcome’.

People from all around the world are seeking n better life in the rural central parts of South Africa. They leave everything behind, family, friends, culture, religion. These asylum seekers are mostly from China, Pakistan, Ethiopia etc. – Conrad Bornman
