Jojo Abot debuted her new song ‘Aim Straight’ on SoundCloud earlier today and did not disappoint. She proved why she is one of Ghana’s hidden gems with her new track which is a fusion of afro and dance beats with some Jazzy vocals. The song also features award winning DJ Kofi.
Of her collaboration with DJ Kofi, Jojo tells us, ‘We were two Ghanaian artists inspired by the West which sometimes can feel like home as well. When he (DJ Kofi) played the track I thought to do a mashup of two songs I had started work on for my EP. In the end we couldn’t deny we had a track that felt like home…. Both homes’.
Even though she counts Asa, Fela Kuti, Buika and Esperanza Spalding amongst her influences, she definitely has her own unique sound.
Jojo is also the creative director for Vintage Gh, a Ghana based alternative clothing brand and also played the lead role in Akosua Adoma Owusu’s 2013 film Kwaku Ananse, starring legendary actress Grace Omaboe.
