wuri-natasha_ogunjiOpening at the Museum of Contemporary African Diaspora Arts (MoCADA) this week, Six Draughtsmen is a new exhibtion that explores the evolution of drawing and its role in African culture.

“If you pick up any book on contemporary drawing, you can easily count the number of African artists in it. In Nigeria, there isn’t much of a place for drawing to be recognized as art in the way painting or sculpture is, let alone contemporary or experimental drawing. I’m interested in showing the range of what contemporary drawing can be with a focus on artists of African descent.” says Artist and curator, Ruby Onyinyechi Amanze

The collection which Amanze started curating back in 2012, at the University of Nigerian will feature artwork by six Nigerian female artists including Ruby Onyinyechi Amanze, Toyin Odutola, Temitayo Ogunbiyi, Wura-Natasha Ogunji, Nnenna Okore and Odun Orimolade.

The exhibition will run from Oct. 24 to Jan. 19. With the opening reception on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m.
