SPOKEN WOR:L:DS, a lyrical exchange between Germany and Kenya

1531616_1479140332309431_1392544651_nSPOKEN WOR:L:DS is an lyrical exchange between artists from Berlin (Germany) and Nairobi (Kenya).

Eight artists from each city have come together for a project that focuses on contemporary performance poetry. Artists in spoken word, rap and poetry are put through an intensive workshop settings for mutual translation, adaptation, collaboration and exchange.

Public events such as readings, performance and debates were opened to the public back in November last year in Nairobi and last month in Berlin.

Ultimately the exchange will result in the production of an album due to be released next year.

The Kenyan artist are Checkmate, L-Ness, Ogutu Muraya, Wanjiku Mwaurah, Namatsi, Sitawa Namwalie, Octopizzo and Poetic Bee.

The German artists are Josefine Berkholz, Diamondog, Erko, Christian Filips, MC Josh, LMNZ, Joe Madog and Sabine.

SPOKEN WOR:L:DS is a project by Literaturwerkstatt Berlin, Maono Cultural Group and Kwani Trust in cooperation with Goethe-Institut Kenya. It is funded by the TURN Fund of the German Federal Cultural Foundation, Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung and supported by Goethe-Institut, Auswärtiges Amt, and Gangway e.V.
