From October 3 to 16, South African Auction house Stephan Welz & Co and the South African Gold Coin Exchange will be staging a collection of artwork (from various art exhibitions) featuring images of and inspired by Nelson Mandela. The event, titled ‘The We Love Mandela exhibition’ will be held at South Africa House in London’s Trafalgar Square and will showcase a significant collection of artworks including paintings, sculpture, photography, cartoons, beadwork and prints.
Artists featured in the exhibit include Wayne Barker, Richard Chauke, David Koloane, Jurgen Schadeburg, Kagisa Pat Mautloa, Billy and Jane Makhubele, Johannes Maswanganyi, Collen Maswanganyi, Rankadi Daniel Mosako, Velaphi Mzimba, Roy Ndinisa, Len Sak, Jurgen Schadeburg, Joachim Schonfeldt, Eric Sher, Alfred Thoba, Lena Woolf, Susan Woolf , Zapiro and Richard Stone. The exhibition will coincide with South Africa’s celebration of 20 years of democracy.
Curator Natalie Knight stated that “Mandela’s influence has had a lasting effect on South Africa and the world. His life and deeds have inspired the artists and they are unanimous in their love and praise for the iconic personality.”
