Dance Africa 2013

Since its inception in 1977, DanceAfrica is known as ‘one of America’s largest and most vibrant celebrations of African and African-American dance music, and culture.’

It’s an event celebrated every year in May at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and traditionally includes music and dance performances, master classes and an outdoor bazaar with arts, craft and food. The week long festivities typically attracts up to 30,000 visitors.

Now in its 36th year, DanceAfrica invites the public to a special tribute to the ancestors buried at the African Burial Ground Cemetery in Lower Manhattan

This year DanceAfrica will Run from May 17th to May 27th, 2013.
