The re-election of a new president is finally here. With today being the last day in which Egyptians within Egypt can vote (Egyptians outside of Egypt will vote June 16 to 17), we will soon late the fate of Egypt.

The two candidates are Hamdeen Sabahi (former presidential candidate in the 2012 elections) and Adbel Fattah el-Sisi (an ex Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces).

In the annual readers poll, Time Magazine named Adbel Fattah el-Sisi as their 2013 Time Person of the Year, stating “Sisi’s success reflected the genuine popularity of a man who led what was essentially a military coup in July against the democratically elected government of then President Mohammed Morsi.

Crazy for Sisi is a short film by photojournalist Laura El-Tantawy profiling Adbel Fattah el-Sisi’s popularity amongst the Egyptian public and questions whether Sisi will be able to meet their expectations.

Description
“Crazy for Sisi” explores the popularity of Egyptian General Abdelfattah al-Sisi, one of two candidates running for the post of Egyptian President in the May 26 and 27 elections.
Egypt’s last three years of political transition have been turbulent and bloody, as is with most revolutions. The instability and economic devastation left Egyptians disillusioned with the idea of democracy and hungry for stability.
General Sisi rose to prominence after heading the move to remove the country’s first democratically elected President, Mohamed Mursi in July 2013. People began to look at him as a “hero” and “savior” while many felt he possessed the character and strength needed to lift the country out of its troubles.
But is Egypt more democratic now than it was? Is General Sisi going to be able to rise to the expectation of Egyptians?
