Last Month, Pikolinos shoe store opened its pop-up store at 32 Gansevoort Street in New York’s Meatpacking District. The store is made up of two floors. As well as the Colors collection and the Spring/Summer shoe and bag collection, the Upper floor also houses the Maasai collection.
The Maasai collection is a footwear collection, designed and manufactured by the women of the Maasai Tribe in Kenya. Pikolinos have teamed up with the non profit organization, ADCAM to employ more than 1600 Maasai women to hand embroider Spanish leather which is then sent back to Spain, where the shoes are completed. This partnership gives the Kenyan women a stable source of income ‘that gives them access to food and medicine’ and education for their children.
The Pop Store features the ‘Maasai Lab’, which highlights the ‘Maasai culture and the company’s commitment to cutting-edge technology, innovation, continuous evolution and a forward-looking vision’.
The Pop-Up Store is opened until July 7, 2013. Click here for more information.
