The Spoken Word Project is an initiative that encourages the art of traditional storytelling through ‘modern manifistations’ -spoken word. The project was founded earlier this year by the Goethe-Institut in South Africa.
The project ‘aims to find ways of documenting this oral art form and increase its visibility in the region as well as abroad. Its online-platform captures both the textual and performative elements of a spoken word narrative as well as the participation and reaction of the audience.’
The project connects spoken word artist from cities around the continent such as Johannesburg, Antananarivo, Yaoundé, Luanda, Nairobi and Abidjan.
