African Designers Will Feature Artisanal Fabrics During Rome Fashion Week

romaGhanaian Designers, Christie Brown and Kiki Clothing will join a handful of designers that employ the use of hand-woven textiles for a showcase on the runway at AltaRomAltaModa on July 7, 2013. Swiss designers PortenierRoth and Italian-Hatian label Stella Jean will also be featured.

This showcase is part of International Trade Contre’s (ITC) Ethical Fashion Initiative -A project that connects fashion businesses with artisans in Africa and Haiti.

The Ethical Fashion Initiative provides work for marginalized artisans in developing countries and helps them to earn a regular income so they can improve the circumstances of their families and their communities. The Ethical Fashion Initiative also makes a connection possible for the fashion world to embrace the skills of creative artisans.
