‘Felix’ is a South African feel-good movie that tells the story about a 14-year-old boy Felix Xaba, who dreams of becoming a saxophonist like his late father – a dream that his mother disapproves off often refering to jazz as the ‘devil’s music’. Felix leaves his township friends behind when he is offered a scholarship at an elitist private school. He defies his mother and turns to two members of his father’s old band to help him prepare for the school jazz concert.
The movie, which stars an all-star cast including Award winning Linda Sokhulu, Hlayani Junior Mabasa and Hlayani Junior Mabasa has been selected to show at the 57th British Film Institute’s London Film Festival from October 9 to 20, 2013.
Felix director, Roberta Durant says ‘The programmer saw Felix at Durban International Film Festival, where we won the Audience Award for Best Film, and called me about the wonderful audience response. Being selected for Britain’s premier film festival is a huge honour and hopefully we’ll be able to announce a cinema release in London soon.”
To celebrate the London release date, Felix is giving away four songs from the soundtrack, including a remix by The Kalahari Surfers, at http://soundcloud.com/felixthemovie. This will be available up until 13 September 2013,
