Thursday 20, 2014 is International Day of Happiness – A day that acknowledges that “the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal” and recognises “the need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well-being of all peoples,” (Rolling Stone).
The act of happiness in general, creates a positive vibe, so it’s no surprise that Pharrell’s recent feel good song ‘Happy’ has rubbed off on many. Since the premiere of his 24 hour happy video in November last year, the N.E.R.D. frontman has inspired many to recreate their own versions and upload them on youtube.
The recent announcement of a collaboration in support of humanitarian work around the world between Pharrell and the United Nations Foundation makes a whole lot of sense. Beginning today (March 17, 2014), ‘Happy’ fans are encouraged to upload YouTube videos of themselves “demonstrating their happiness” to ‘Happy’ with the hashtag #HAPPYDAY and submitting it to 24 Hours of Happiness website. On March 20, the best submissions will be spotlighted at noon in each time zone.
Fans are also being encouraged to make donations to the Central Emergency Response Fund, a fund established to “support critical aid operations for people affected by natural disasters and armed conflicts” and to “provide fast and reliable humanitarian assistance.
